The Practical Guide to Connecting a 'Dumb' TV / Chromecast Dongle to a Network & Internet 'Channel' Server

The Practical Guide to Connecting a 'Dumb' TV / Chromecast Dongle to a Network & Internet 'Channel' Server
Contenuto dell'eBook:

The Chromecast Dongle is a ‘cross-platform’ HDMI CEC Compatible Wi-Fi Enabled IPTV Streaming Media Player, that connects your 'Dumb' TV wirelessly to your home network and the Internet. It gives your 'Dumb' TV access to Netflix, YouTube, Hulu+, Google Play, HBO GO, Pandora, MLB.TV Premium, VEVO, Red Bull.TV, Songza, Plex, PostTV, Viki and RealPlayer Cloud in the US and BBC iPlayer. BBC iPlayer, Netflix, YouTube, BT Sport, and Google Play Movies and Music in the U.K. International users will also gain access to country-specific ‘apps’, such as Canalplay in France, and Watchever & Maxdome in Germany. International users will also be able to ‘Cast’ from YouTube, Google Play Movies, Google Play Music, and Netflix, where geographically available.

Note: Should a potential purchaser merely wish to 'Cast' webpages and make use of the more limited access to device based media content provided by the Google Chromecast Dongle, using the basic features of the Google Chromecast Dongle and associated software, then this eBook is not a requirement and such potential purchasers are advised that this eBook will be of no interest to them and should not attempt to purchase it.

This eBook addresses the subject, with respect to the Chromecast Dongle, as an international device and as such this eBook is not country specific, addressing any geographical differences where they are significant.

This eBook does not detail the installation of the Chrome Browser to a desktop/laptop, the Chromecast Dongle to an HDTV or its' configuration on a home broadband network, since these aspects are adequately covered by an accompanying booklet in the Chromecast Retail Box and the on-line 'walk through' installation process to which the user is automatically directed.

Instead this eBook addresses two failings in the Chromecast Dongles' functionality, its' inability to 'Stream', or 'Cast', digital media content from devices on the home network and the limited number of digital media file formats that may be 'Cast'. This lack of functionality is overcome by installing a Network & Internet 'channel' Digital Media Server to the home network, that Digital Media Server application is 'Plex Media Server'. Which 'Transcodes', or converts 'on-the-fly' digital media file formats that the Chromecast Dongle is not able to 'natively' 'Cast'.
This makes home network digital media content, in an increased number of digital media file formats available to the Chromecast Dongle using a 'Chromecast Aware' Companion ‘app’.

This eBook is, at its' core, a highly graphical instruction manual, in order to minimise the amount of text the reader is presented with, this is reflected in the high page count and larger than usual file size of the eBook, it moves very quickly after a little reading into ‘hands-on’ practical demonstrations. It is a 'Practical Guide’, it contains only the practical, ‘hands-on’, information required to add access to home network based digital media content and an increased number of digital media file formats which may be successfully 'Cast'. Enabling the reader to reliably 'Cast' videos, movies, music and pictures in an increased number of digital media file formats from the home network. Additionally the 'Casting' of digital media content from 'Cloud' based drives is also demonstrated.

Concise text and illustrated full-colour descriptions are used to introduce the basic principles media file 'streaming' and 'Casting'. Step-by-step full-colour screenshots demonstrate the downloading, installing and use of the required DLNA/uPnP Compliant 'Plex Media Server' software used for 'Casting' digital media content, all of which is completely free and fully functioning, unless described otherwise.
