A spreadsheet is an interactive computer application program for organization, analysis and storage of data in tabular form. Spreadsheets are used everywhere, every day to record, analyze and evaluate data. One of the most popular spreadsheet programs is Microsoft Excel.
Excel is one of the main programs in Microsoft Office. It is a program used to predominantly help with the creation of spreadsheets and analysis of data. Three of the most common types of users of Excel are shop keepers who use it to keep track of store inventory and the ordering of goods; people who run their own home business or who use spreadsheets to monitor their income and outgoings; and people who use it to help monitor expenditure in their household.
At work, spreadsheets are commonly used for reporting and analysis. When putting together sales reports, financial statements, inventory, customer activity, project scheduling and more, the chances are that you’ll be using excel. This is a program that has the ability to give feedback and allows users to manipulate and develop any data. It allows us to create our data in an easy to understand way, a way that is attractive and easy on the eye.
The problem with Excel and many other data and spread sheet programs is; either that people do not understand them at all or that people understand some of the program but are not able to take advantage of all its functionalities. Many people see the program as being unwieldy and difficult to understand.
Even in the work place Excel is under-utilized and not used to its full capacity.
You may use Excel every day but the chances are that you have not mastered it yet. People believe, incorrectly, that Excel is hard to use and difficult to manage.
